I made my first $100 with Medium
It only took 2 years
It’s no secret that the rollout of the Medium Partner Program has been a game-changer for new writers. It’s helped people gain confidence in their ability to earn from writing and, in many cases, opened doors to transition into full-time content creation. For countless others, it’s sparked the ambition to make money online the bread-and-butter of their lives.
I’d be lying if I said it didn’t inspire me to start exploring content creation as a serious career path.
Does inspiration equate to motivation and discipline?
Certainly not — and I am proof of that. I joined the Medium Partner Program in 2020, and while making my first few dollars was fun and exciting, averaging at $1 per month, was hardly a confirmation to quit my day job.
Seeing the spare change come in month after month only indicated that making money online as a writer was possible. Even if the volume was low.
So, what kept me from going all in? Why didn’t I strive for more? Mindset. I knew I could make money and grow an audience if I became consistent. But that meant showing up to being seen and sharing my evolution as a content creator with more than just a few hundred people. This meant being vulnerable and somehow monetizing it.
